Had the priviledge of attending the Jazz in June concert finale of the Gene Harris Jazz Festival held this year on June 19th through the 21st. The concert provided some of the best jazz musicians in the country - Roy Haynes, Nicholas Payton, Kenny Garrett, Christian McBridge, and Dave Kikoski.
The night started out with a trio out of Kansas City that really got the crowd in the mood for what was to come. The trio was the winner of the Gene Harris Jazz Competition.
Today is the last day of the festival. There’s still time to hear some great jazz. The Gene Harris Band Shell in Julia Davis Park is the place, starting at 10:00am. At 2:00pm, Cheri Buckner and the celebration Choir will finish the concert with a gospel performance.
Head on out to the park for a great day of music and sun!
